Meal Planning - Low Effort Solutions

1. When you get home from the grocery store with carrots and celery: rinse, cut and place in a container in the refrigerator for a few days' worth of ready-to-go snacks. You could also pre-package them in sandwich bags for even more convenience. Small re-usable plastic containers are perfect for this.

2. When you get home from the grocery store with fresh herbs: rinse, cut a little off stem ends, place in a glass of water, cover with the bag they came in, and place the covered glass in the refrigerator. This will help preserve their freshness for a few days. Some herbs even do well in a window-sill instead, and sometimes even take root. They can then be planted in a pot or directly in the garden. When I have extra herbs from the bunch I purchase, and some of them make it to the ground outside, I feel a bit victorious, like I've saved a little life. If you don't see it quite like that, you've got to admit that I really got a big return of investment over the course of the summer!

3. Don't go to the grocery store without a list! Whether its in your head or on paper, this tip will prevent you from coming home with everything that was at eye-level. (You'll find a grocery list in different formats on the left side of the screen. Some of them can be modified to suit your needs, and the layout of your favorite grocery store.)
