Meal Planning

Nobody seems to have much time for anything anymore. I can't remember the last time I called a dear friend and chatted about everything and nothing for an hour. One person I know actually schedules 15-minute "catch-up" calls just to keep in touch and to have a "newsletter" kind of conversation that has a clear ending in sight. We might be getting a lot of things done, but many of us are not taking care of our bodies and minds in some of the most basic ways.

Does it seem, at times, that "prioritization" of your to-do list means simply responding to items that are screaming the loudest instead of addressing them in true priority order? Ok, no lecturing allowed; this is supposed to be about healthy cooking. The connection is this: planning healthy meals and snacks is very important, whether you are busy or not. If you are busy, this planning can often be shuffled into a lower priority order just because everything ELSE seems so much more important. The result? Dinner from drive-through windows or mad-dashes through the supermarket for "ready to eat" meals. Think about it - you are asking a lot of your body (and mind) by having a hectic schedule, then you subject it to highly processed, high-fat foods that introduce new stress to your body. That's it - I'm calling the cops!

<enter Police Officer> "You are now under arrest for the crimes of assaulting your body with processed foods, contributing to the delinquency of your energy levels, and misrepresentation of your health. Anything you eat can and will be held against you in a court of law..."

If you look on the left side of the page, you will find some meal planning strategies, sorted by the effort level required. Try a few of these on for size and see what you think. I am also including an example of a really simple 3- evening meal plan, from the medium-effort list.
